January 31 Am I Crazy?Ok, I need to know if it's just me, or if this is really annoying.
Yesterday, this guy from Rogers calls me, unsolicited, on my cell phone. He tells me he can give a much better deal on my phone than I have now, blah blah blah. He proceeds to offer me this deal and that deal, a new phone, deals for 2 phones (who would I give the other phone to?), all kinds of stuff. I tell him I want to review my usage to determine why my bill is as high as it is and go from there. I tell him to call me back, at work, at 10:30 today. I give him my work number.
At precisely 10:30 today, my cell phone starts ringing. I am driving. I recognize the number to be this Rogers guy, so I ignore it. I am home with my son, so I don't really have time to deal with this guy. I figure he'll leave a message.
Wrong. In the last hour, he has called me 6 times. On the 6th time, I finally answered (because I wanted the ringing to stop) , told him I was really busy, and it was kind of annoying that he is calling every 10 minutes and not leaving a message. His response: "Well, when somebody tells me to call, I do them a favour and call them back." My reply "I asked you to call me at work. Not on my cell phone." He then proceeds to tell me that I did in fact give him my cell number in case he couldn't get a hold of me at work. This is a total crock. I told him so. I said "you called me, unsolicted, on my cell phone yesterday. I don't know how you got that number, but I assume it is because you work at Rogers." He continued to argue with me. I decided I had enough and said "this is a really bad time for me and I just can't talk about this right now," and I hung up. The phone has been blissfully silent since.
So please people, tell me. Is this incessant calling the most annoying behaviour ever? Not to even mention the arguing with the customer you are trying to sucker into a 3 year contract. Sheesh. And I was prepared to actually consider what this guy had to offer.
Anyway, I feel much better now having vented my frustration. I wish I could remember the guy's name cause I would most definitely send a complaint email to Rogers. Suggesting that they perhaps train people a little better in how not to annoy your customers into switching to Bell Mobility. November 18 FundraisingToday I held a 12 hour "Scrap & Yap" to raise money for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. For those non-scrapbookers out there, a Scrap & Yap (a brilliant turn of phrase coined by my good friend Britgal) is a gathering where people who scrapbook (generally women, go figure), get together for a period of time to work on their scrapbooks and, well, yap with each other.
For today's event, people paid an admission fee which included 3 meals and endless snacks, use of my scrapbooking tools, and a chance to win prizes. I got donations of food, cash and prizes from local businesses and friends.
There was a smaller turn out than I would have liked, but not bad for a first event of this type. And I'm please to say that $725 was raised for the Weekend. I want to start with some shout outs:
To Cindy, Kevin, Anna and Genevieve for all their help with the setup/cleanup
To Anna for the delicious dips
To Serdic for the awesome lemon squares and ginger sparklers. Everybody raved about them and thinks you should be baking for a living.
To Fiona for the cool make & take
To Sue for bugging facilities for me and helping me unload my car
To all the local businesses that provided support in the form of food, prize, or cash donations. You can see the full list on my WEBC website.
It was a fun day, although I got absolutely no scrapping done myself.
I am encouraged enough to try it again in the spring, after I am moved and settled in to the new house. A number of lessons learned from this first event that I'll have to try to address next time -- namely food quantity. I have so much food left over I could easily eat for weeks. I have no place to store this food. And this is after I sent Cindy & Kevin home with a large quantity of food. So I'll have to figure that one out.
I hope for next time, I can get more participants. My goal is to double the funds raised. |
