    Take Off Eh

So, this weekend is the 2-4 anniversary of the release of Bob & Doug MacKenzie's Strange Brew.  That officially makes me ... OLD.

CBC, which I generally consider to be quite useless, outside of Hockey Night in Canada (or Hockey Afternoon in Canada to satisfy our American overlords friends and neighbours) is airing the movie and a one hour special tomorrow night.  Although, one thing I will say for CBC -- when they air movies, they don't seem to needlessly censor them they way American stations do.  I find it odd.  A US network will show an outrageously violent movie and make sure that all the swearing and boobs are censored.  Clearly hearing the F-word and seeing naked breasts is going to be the downfall of society.  Watching human beings get blown up on the other hand, well that's just fantasy!

And, coolest of all, Brick Brewing Company Ltd., who has been bottling Red Cap Ale in stubby bottles for the good part of this millennium, will be including one collectible Bob and Doug stubby in each 12-pack of Red Cap beer sold this summer.  Weirdly enough, I recently started drinking Red Cap beer and find that I quite like it.  At first I was apalled by the smell of it, but it grew on me.  It's kind of licorice-y.  I'll have to get me some Red Cap.

So, tomorrow night you'll be able to find me watching the 2-4 anniversary special, and NOT drinking Red Cap.  In fact, I'll not be drinking anything harder than diet coke.  Ya ya, it's almost un-Canadian to watch Bob & Doug and not drink beer, but there are mitigating circumstances.  The things I do for friendship.

    Eye Candy

Inspired by You Look Like a Nail, I thought I would provide a little eye candy. And so, I present, the men of Angel.

    Mmmm. Angel

Wesley got hotter as time went on I think.

    Gunn. Yum.

Doyle. Did you know he was Becky's husband Mark on Roseanne? And he really did have an Irish accent? Died of a drug overdose in 2002. Sad.

Lorne. C'mon, there's something about a green guy with horns!

And for those of you who like 'em young (oh wait, that's me ), Connor.

    House Cooling

Well, we said farewell to Richmond in grand style on Saturday night.  My house cooling party was well attended.  A couple of my blogging buddies were even there.  Serdic made an appearance with a most excellent, homemade angel food cake (nobody missed the vanilla) with berries and (again) home made whipped cream.  He got to see first hand what a slut my cat Lily is, after she used him for pets and cuddles then abandoned him (where IS my camera when I need it anyway?).  There was a meeting of the minds when Serdic started chatting with frequent blog commenter "Martin Brice" (geek meets geek).  Britgal showed up, in spite of a horrendous headache.

Mass consumption ensued:  2 bottles of tequila (one in margaritas, one for shooters), a bottle of wine and 17 bottles of beer were emptied.  Somehow, my bottle of rum ended up empty too, but I don't think there was much left in it to begin with.  On the food side, chips, veggies and dips went fast, followed by a pan of lasagna, the aforementioned angel food cake and sugar pie.

A public congratulations to Ken & Tam on their recent engagement (I'm finally allowed to say it out loud!!!).  And congratulations to me for conceiving such a good match (yes, I take full credit!)

For myself, I got to show off my new hair and happy shoes, and apparently posed for pictures highlighting both.  Lucky thing Martin left his camera at my place, so I can do some editing (no, I won't).

Oh yeah -- Ken:  I love you.  I will have no more parties unless you can attend.  That grilled cheese was the best one I've ever eaten.  I woke up to a clean house!!!!!  Have I told you how much I love you?

Pictures later.  Maybe a whole photo album.

Next up:  House warming in the new place -- probably in March, when I have a chance to get unpacked.

    Oh yeah, I almost forgot:

I don't know why I think this is so funny, but it kills me.

    Thanks Stu!

    Cirque du Soleil

Last night I went to see Cirque du Soleil Delirium.  The tickets were our teams' prize for winning the Photographic Scavenger Hunt.  I have never seen a Cirque du Soleil show, so I had no idea what to expect.

First, there was an opening act, Nitza, a singer from Montreal.  Her website describes her as a "multi-ethnic, multi-lingual singer".  She has a very powerful voice.  The band uses a number of rarely seen instruments.  It's not really my kind of music, but certainly a good show.

Delirium I'm just not sure how to describe.  The premise is that you are watching somebody's messed up dream, which kind of appeals to my sense of weirdness.  It's a concert really, with a bunch of acrobatic and dance performances accompanied by singers, incredible visual effects and costumes.  At times, it was completely mesmerizing.  The amount of rehearsing these people must have to do I can't even imagine.  And the planning and timing that goes into pulling of such a show boggles the mind.

It's probably not something I would have paid for myself, and to be honest, I probably wouldn't go again (unless the ticket was free of course!), but it was certainly an interesting experience.

At one point, there were these 4 acrobats that did some fairly amazing stunts.  They are all in absolutely incredible physical condition of course.  They were wearing silver speedo like shorts.  And all I could think was, "Man, Jimmy would be loving this."

A show with something for everyone I guess.
